The Black York Region Youth (BYR Youth) with the help of a grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation put on a Black Youth pop-up market on March 5th. This market allowed Black Youth Entrepreneurs ages 15-30 to sell and promote their products and services. As well as Black Youth artists to sell and showcase their bodies of work. The pop-up also feature a Black Youth Dj, a panel of 5 experienced Black Youth entrepreneurs, catered food and more. In this marketplace, we launched booths to showcase Black youth work and talents, including artwork, clothing, food, and drinks in the GTA community. This marketplace aims to promote belonging and inclusion, while also providing a safer space for Black youth. In addition to showcasing their skills, the youth will gain valuable skills such as public speaking, presentation, networking, and community-building, empowering them in their abilities and future endeavours. The event aims to amplify Black excellence and talent while teaching the importance of networking, enabling youth entrepreneurs to create connections with their community and like-minded individuals, and opening up opportunities for the future. Through this event, Black youth entrepreneurs will be reassured of the support they have from their community when it comes to taking leadership roles and showcasing their talents.
